Social Media a platform for racism.

The Government on a “Hlasela racism on social media” project

Individuals in our political parties have taken upon themselves to write racists remarks on social media, hence other people have followed suit because our leaders tell us that it is okay.

Our Government has seen this trend of being racially bullied on social media and it is very clear on where it stands, our government condemns the resurgence of racist posts on twitter, Facebook or any other social network platform which deliberately undermines the gains made towards social cohesion, nation building and strengthening democracy. This act of racism on its own does not only divide us to greater lengths than we already are but it also acts against the constitution, and because it is not constitutional the Government is taking a stand to all of this condemning it in all forms.

The government officials hands on trying to abort ‘mission racism’.

Acting GCIS Director General, Donald Liphoko, said; “It is unfortunate that such comments follow hot on the heels of the country commemorating Human Rights Day. Government will actively pursue offenders through all available mechanisms including confronting employers and will not allow incidents of racism to define us as a country. What we do in defending our country today will define who we are as a country in the future. Those found guilty of racist utterances and acts must face the consequences of their actions”.

The South African Constitution rejects racism

The public especially black people have been directly affected by these outburst of people being racist, be it on social media or just in open outdoor. The President Jacob Zuma also had something to say about racism more than anything else he encourages people to stop this violent act, he urges and pleads with South African citizens to be more together actively counteracting racism within the law because it is against the law and any person that experiences it can go to the nearest police station and report the matter or through the South African Human Rights Commission and the Equality Courts. Social media is a platform for different things fun and work related but not for racism, people need to differentiate between freedom of speech and overdoing it
